Catching Up - Skype Dinner Parties #2 (a skype chat..)

[21:51:22] Aharon says: appologies if it sounds rude, but are you the one who suggested to play games in a skype party on the paw website?
[21:52:48] collective creative dissent says: did I use the word ' game' - I might have... if so, I meant it in a pretty loose sense, like interacting thtough music and playlists, like you suggested, but also through the different foods we eat, and different themes for conversation...
[21:53:23] collective creative dissent says: Maybe Kajsa mentioned games in her comment?
[21:53:59] Aharon says: i thought it was a great idea. i can not recall if you used "game" - i might have chinese whispered it..
[21:54:05] Aharon says: maybe..
[21:55:03] collective creative dissent says: yes, I kind of like it too, if we can avoid it becoming too formal... you know, sometimes these things seems to backfire - you try out models for informal interaction, and end up having a very formal discussion about the model...
[21:55:18] collective creative dissent says: I wanted to do a smiley or cheeky type face but can't find them on this new interface...
[21:55:43] collective creative dissent says: ah, here we go ;)
[21:55:55] Aharon says: oh! I use the old style keyboard faces.. ;)
[21:56:25] Aharon says: yes.. it can turn either way - but i think worth a risk
[21:57:09] collective creative dissent says: absolutely! seems Jacqui and Geoff are up for it too (ACW) and I spoke to Scott and BK are on, so perhaps we already have enough folk for a wee gathering!
[21:58:35] Aharon says: sounds like we do.. i thought that maybe, if we come up with a theme - as was suggested - each of us could come up with tunes according to the theme, and we musical chairs it, sort of thing
[22:00:13] collective creative dissent says: musical chairs? think you need to tell me more... perhaps there is a Scando equivalent...
[22:00:54] collective creative dissent says: sounds good though - a theme and tunes
[22:01:12] Aharon says: scando? i mean take turns in playing the tunes
[22:01:46] collective creative dissent says: sorry, scandinavian - I grew up in Sweden so my knowledge of English games etc. is sketchy... at best...
[22:02:21] collective creative dissent says: but yes, take turns playing tunes on a theme sounds like a great idea!
[22:02:28] Aharon says: i think its world wide game.. i grew up in tel-aviv, and it was there as well
[22:04:09] Aharon says: humm.. maybe a theme could come from the type of food..? what if it was a distributed food..?
[22:04:46] collective creative dissent says: Yes, so it's just taking turn playing music... We did that too. But we also had a different game involving music and chairs, where everybody would march around a number of chairs in the middle of a room, one less chair than people playing the game, and once the music stopped - unexpectedly in the middle of the song - everyone had to try and grab a chair and the one that was left without the chair was kicked out of the game, and so on and forth until a winner remained... sounded like musical chairs could refer to sth like that
[22:06:09] collective creative dissent says: yes, Jacqui was suggesting an apertivo session, right - supposedly that would involve many small dishes - that could be a format worth exploring, a pool of recipes that we'd all try to make for each of our apertivo tables, some successes, perhaps, and some probably failures... as it is a semi-global thing, perhaps there'd be interesting kinds of food involved....
[22:06:39] Aharon says: oh yes.. we could do something similar by saying: if you missed your turn playing the music - you are not to play music..
[22:07:03] collective creative dissent says: yes, that could work...
[22:07:11] Aharon says: whats apertivo..?
[22:08:08] collective creative dissent says: it's this north italian thing they do before supper - they meet like between 6 and 9 or sth, and most bars and bistro type places would have a table of small dishes that they will serve for free or for a small fee with your pre-supper drinks
[22:09:02] collective creative dissent says: often it involved multiple dishes, some hot, some cold - cheeses, etc. delicate food, not too make you to full, as you'll be heading off to proper supper 9 or 10 or sth...
[22:09:15] collective creative dissent says: good fun, and very cheap - you can live of that if you know the right places to go\
[22:10:36] Aharon says: hummm... yes... so... like... i can give you a recepie.. you give someone else, and so on.. and we all endup eating each other's recepies..?
[22:10:47] Aharon says: errr.. i mean dishes..
[22:10:51] collective creative dissent says: exactly - that could be fun
[22:11:04] Aharon says: yes! lots of it!
[22:11:27] collective creative dissent says: and a music game... good to keep in touch, etc. also doing stuff like this, I think
[22:11:42] collective creative dissent says: more convivial stuff - food and music, etc.
[22:11:53] Aharon says: yes.. so.. apertivo.. does it mean appetizer..?
[22:13:12] collective creative dissent says: sort off, but often you eat it for a while, with drinks, and then you go to a restaurant and have a normal dinner with antipasti, pasta, secondi, dessert, etc. Though I'm not sure how often they would do the whole thing... Seems a lot... Maybe they skip the antipasti if they do apertivo
[22:14:09] Aharon says: i was just thinking that maybe "appetizer" could turn into a party theme..?
[22:15:06] collective creative dissent says: yes - great 'tasters' - we can do a taster-session - trying out new things, and each other, and new art-worlds, as it were ;)
[22:15:33] Aharon says: yup! ;)
[22:15:46] collective creative dissent says: we shoud
[22:15:50] collective creative dissent says: sorry
[22:15:58] collective creative dissent says: we should put this on the forum somehow
[22:16:01] Aharon says: cool!
[22:16:12] Aharon says: yes - just my thought..

Try again?

Regarding this Skype dinner party event:

As last them was a bit of a non-event, is there any point in giving it another go?

Maybe plan it better: exchange recipes, like a potential collaborative apertivo menu; set up a menu of topics for discussion; intersperse the food and discussion with this musical chairs game; I don’t know, something like that…

Anybody up for it? If so, let us know and perhaps we can try and set a date, start working on formats, etc.

re: Try again?

Yup! Am up for it.

I think that maybe it will be helpful to organise that on a skype chat devoted for preparing the party?

Ideas..?

aye

I'm game.

Agreed, a bit more structure -- just enough to make it interesting though...

like in-peron dinner parties, how about asking for RSVP?

PS, Right now have been traveling with Leigh to Georgia and North FLorida for Mom's wedding and visiting family... we'll get back to Philadelphia on Nov 23rd and respond more then -->

I'm up for it and think we

I'm up for it and think we should give it a go as soon as possible.

Some concrete practical suggestions - maybe start with establishing a pre-set menue which includes food and topics, and if anyone has any ideas for themes or recipes perhaps we could start working through some of them on the forum so that a set-menue could be agreed upon.

I think we should still link the dinners with music so perhaps we could have 30min discussion for each topic and recipe and end with someone playing a song.

Also I agree with you Scott that we should ask people to RSVP.

As for dates how about Saturday 9th of December?
