About Convention/Exhibition - location/spaces/galleries/buildings etc...
When we all met at Basekamp for the first planning session it seemed possible that the ICA Philadelphia would host an exhibition and possibly provide the space for the convention/talks. Recently Scott said that the time frame and space frame hasn't worked out with ICA. Although I don't think this is a problem as such what I do think that the ICA can offer this project is its AUDIENCE.
The idea of using buildings that are vacant could be really effective, look interesting, and introduce another dimension altogether - 'outside of the museum' is also an advantageous situation for new audiences. But I think that the convention, or a series of presentations at ICA are fundamentally important to linking audiences, worlds, hierarchies etc. So I'd like to stay in discussion with ICA to develop something on that level.
And pretty soon I think we could begin to discuss who might speak on those panels... including the curator from ICA and Philly museum.
re: Locations for exhibition/conference
Your view sounds fairly reasonable. However, I find it hard to contribute more than that untill there's more information about the various places and possibilities with them.

I still like to design plausible hybrids between the diverse groups that participate as a means maybe to create cross-fades between the various exhibits groups make of themselves. (ok I won't call it merger ever again!!!)

About the ICA, Philadelphia - here's a link to the next stage of the project - a series of weekly events at the ICA coming up this Spring 2007 (all the events including these are ultimately leading up to the Convention later as planned in Fall 2007):

I think it's better this way - to take them up on their invite this Spring and use it to advance the project during this stage of the game. & it will be a lot of fun!
It's still a good point about getting interesting curators involved, local and non-local, for the large Convention at the end of the year. The ICA still extends the invitation for some talks / presentations again for the Convention in Fall 07 as well. We should definitely keep in touch about this.
How to proceed ahead? -- the planning group should now feel free invite people into the discussion through this web forum & scheduled skype chats (for people who don't have access to skype, we can call regular phones using skype-out). My guess is people interested to contribute will be the ones who we see participate during these months, and that should probabaly determine who is involved in the Convention next year. I'm optimistic that it will be a good group of people -
