Interests

What interests me in this project? Probably its not exactly what interest you, maybe even hopefuly so, because then we can develop critical dialogues.

I have a good few ideas, maybe bad ones, about the ways art worlds could operate. The common theme for even considering art worlds, is that I think the ways in which they operate affects the works which they, in a sense, produce.
For example, in a system where objects are valued, we'll get art works that produce stuff in forms that can be traded, seen, and pointed at. This, I think, affects the way one expects him/her self to work. Just imagine that you don't know, in the process of conceiving a project, whether or not it will strive to produce something...

This is a very large scale, production or non-production, however, the same applies to other levels. e.g. in the UK context, try to concieve a project for funding without thinking about its plausible social effects - and you will be left pennyless...

Indeed, the way art is funded, is a way of negating cultural critique - but more fundamentaly, its a way in which art itself is being perceived by the socio-political powers.
We take it for granted that when we are ill, we go to the doctor. If we are badly ill, we might even get to check the local hospital's fascilities.
We, kind of, take it for granted that there are religious intitutions that largely represted by "places of warship".

In the UK, people are happy with the idea that health services are largely funded by the state, and that religious institutions, and organisations, are largely funded by the community they "service" and the state.

One of the ways in which I think art could be funded, is a mix of the health service and religions funding in the UK.
Every now and again, I imagine a National Art Service. Artists, in that service, will open practices open to the public to come and have cultural energising time.
Each area, will have a democratically elected art board which will dish out funds for public projects in lecal locations. (..such board memebers will be elected by artists, and memebers can not be on the board for over 4 years..)

This kind of a project could take the place of religion in people's lives... That's because I see art as a skeptical spirituality practice... Though I should probably write about that in a different entery...
