oh my god we are not going for that one still are we?

Hypertext, the early nineties, the death of Barthes eh... authorship. It seems ages ago. The art market wants personality cults and brands they can sell using romantic visions awakening the longing for authenticity (check Charles Taylor) in its clients, and nostalgia flowers like never before... especially post punk visions by chinese artists packaged in slick neo-matrix estethics, the real suffering from some chinese artist that cut off his arm to get some attention from abroad. That's competition for you!

To be an author is to resume responsibility. As an art organisation maybe it can be wiser to deflect responsibility blaming the organisation rather than claiming authorship. If art was illegal, what would be the plausible business models?

Not that version - I don't think so..

Lets see..

If responsibility is the ability to respond, and art can be said to be a culturaly irresponsible practice - why would anyone blame someone?

art & responsibility

Should we open a new subject altogether or continue this thread? I like the responsibility of art question better than the authorship ordeal, even though responsibility has some mothballs in its closet too.

art & categorability

Guess it could come in as a subject in the authorship forum.
Mind you, I think both are related to the audiences forum as well as funding structures.. (though i don't think we have a forum for that..)

Yeah! Lets open a new thread on funding plausible artworlds

taxonomic structure

hey Aharon, can we create fluid taxonomies / categorization of threads that relate in part to a number of other topics? hmmm... this comment could also go under "site talk". Maybe an interactive diagramming interface? We're thinking through this issue tonight at MIT in relation to the archive structure Erik & Marisa are developing for PAW. Maybe could also apply to the website in some interesting way? There must be existing code to enable this kind of mult-categorization...?

re: taxonomic structure

I've uploaded some modules that might do something on these directions..
Will test them later.

Mediamatic

Hi Scott,

Willem Velthoven of Mediamatic has such a program called anymedia. check it out. Maybe I can persuade him to give us a free copy? Their own website is an example http://www.mediamatic.net/ and places the new content automatically in a relevant context without having to design categories beforehand.

new thread

hey Teike - new thread opened:

Funding Plausible Artworlds >>

For now it's under the "Planning Group" category, and moved all funding-related posts there. But if you want to talk more about concepts in a public way, maybe we start a thread on "Alternative Economies" - we could make this our next weekly topic?
